Charming Places of Norfolk & Suffolk

Both counties are home to such distinctive and varied towns and villages, cherished by locals and visitors alike.

Mulbarton, just a few miles south of Norwich, is a quintessential English village. Its focal point is the expansive village common surrounded by traditional cottages and medieval church. Perfect for leisurely strolls or a peaceful family picnic, the common is a hub of community activity. Due to Mulbartons’ quick, commutable distance into the city and good range of amenities, the village attracts young families, demonstrated by the village’s strong sense of togetherness.

The popular neighbouring villages of New and Old Buckenham, each boast a unique feel. New Buckenham is a rare example of a medieval planned settlement, with a fascinating grid layout and a wealth of historic buildings, whilst benefitting useful, daily facilities such as a church, public house, cafe and village store. Just a couple of miles away, Old Buckenham features a prominent pond and one of the largest village greens in England which is a striking feature of this picturesque village. Like its neighbour, the village also has a range of good facilities, such as convenience store, two public houses and a Secondary school.

Six miles west of Wymondham is the popular market town of Hingham which has distant connections to former American president Abraham Lincoln, with many early settlers from the town emigrating to Massachusetts around the 17th century. Hingham features a beautiful Georgian Market Place and the grand St. Andrew’s Church.

Facilities are a plenty, with popular public house and hotel, supermarket, bakery, butchers and two cafes drawing in local residents and visitors alike.

Further south and with handy access onto the A11, is East Harling. A vibrant village steeped in heritage that offers the perfect mix of old-world charm, great countryside walks and selection of useful facilities which makes it an easy place to stay, enjoy and explore.

Journeying over the border into Suffolk, Stradbroke is a hidden gem, with a character all of its own. This charming village features winding lanes, cosy pubs, and a close-knit community. Stradbroke’s peaceful ambiance makes it an ideal spot to recharge and soak up the surrounding countryside. Botesdale and adjoining Rickinghall are pretty Suffolk villages with streets adorned by numerous listed and timber framed buildings.

Finally, Palgrave, just a mile from Diss, is a village that seems to belong to a bygone era. Its quiet lanes, lush leafy green, and traditional architecture make it a haven for walkers, photographers, and those seeking a steady / pace of life.

All of these places captures the essence of Norfolk and Suffolk.
